Running Roulette: An Unpredictable Adventure of Exercise, Discussion, and Fun Surprises

Coach Shelby & Coach Christine Season 1 Episode 99

What if you could add an element of surprise to your long run by introducing randomness? Welcome to an episode of Brunch filled with unexpected surprises and profound discussions. Join us, Coach Shelby and Coach Christine, as we take you on this unique running adventure. Inspired by a previous episode, we've created a 'Wheel of Randomness' that will dictate our workout. Every five minutes, look forward to a change, ranging from pickups and pullbacks to random recipes and engaging games. We also take the liberty to dish out a fun question - what vegetable would you be if you had a choice?

But that's not all! Apart from lacing up and running, we delve into an array of intriguing topics. Ever wondered about the idea of infinite abundance? Or the lack of backstory in children's shows that leaves us with unanswered questions? Join us in exploring these subjects alongside a light-hearted discussion on our favorite celebrities. We also invite you to travel back in time with us as we reminisce about our favorite childhood toys and authors. And let's not forget the aesthetics of a Victorian fainting couch and the sentimental value of possessions.

As we reach the finish line after a thrilling run, we wrap up by discussing the benefits of rehydrating and refueling with healthy snacks. Recharge with some of our favorite randomizer recipes. It's not just about the physical activity, it's about embracing the adventure that comes with it.

So, tie up your running shoes, bring a dash of unpredictability, and let's embark on this unforgettable journey together. Prepare for a run that's as random as it gets, filled with laughter, learning, and an abundance of fun surprises.

Speaker 1:

Hey friends, coach Shelby and Coach Christine, welcoming you in and letting you know it's time for brunch, where here at brunch, there's always an open table, a hot cup of coffee, an endless running fun to keep you moving and grooving. This brunch is going to be extra exciting because, in the world of trying things new, we're going to try something new. So this episode is going to be a quote unquote structured workout. So let's lace up those shoes, put a smile on your face and log some miles. Games are some of the best conventions ever made. Board play a game. You need a little inspiration. Play a game Have a long run that's dragging along, leaving you tired and unenthused. Put on brunch, and we've got a game for that. So, coach Christine, let's go ahead right out of the gate. Tell everybody what we are doing.

Speaker 2:

I feel like I can't still your thunder coach, because this is something that came to your mind, actually when we were interviewing one of a guest and you snagged it and immediately you've been working on it since that interview. So I can't, i can't, i cannot do it, but what I can say is that I'm so ridiculously excited. Should we go ahead and get folks into the warm up when we introduce them?

Speaker 1:

Okay, Yep, go ahead, let's get into that. Walk in, warm up in three, two, one, because this is going to be a workout. You know, we're going to make you walk it out, warm it up, and this was inspired on our episode with none other than Mr Jeff Galloway, and I will say, my fan girl heart kind of sung a little bit when he thought it was a great idea. So we're making fetch happen right here and now And we are playing a little running roulette. So what we did is we created a wheel of randomness with pickups, pullbacks and surprises along the way, and we have not pre-pinned this wheel, so we are literally going to be spinning the wheel in real time. Scary, yes, exciting, yes. Kind of makes us feel like we have to run to the bathroom before we do this run Also. Yes, yeah, but it's, it's going to be interesting.

Speaker 2:

Friends, we can't even begin to tell you how long we've been prepping for this specific run, because we want to make sure that you guys are getting to feel the excitement as we build it through and through. But at the core, this is a long run, so you're going to keep a majority of your pacing at a conversation pace on that RPS scale of one to 10. One is, as coach would say, a stroll with your bestie as you're out for a cup of coffee. Ten is that all out sprint. We know that when we are out for our long runs, keeping them in that conversational from like three to five, depending on where you're at with your running goals, is really important. We're going to suggest you stay about three to four because we are going to drop in some randomness about every five minutes for you to play along and change things up.

Speaker 2:

I think this is going to probably be one of those long runs that goes by so quickly because you don't know what to expect and you do know that you have quite a bit of fun along the way. So, of course, as always, listen to your body. If we have the wheel of readiness, pick something that you know is just not meant for you, for your, for your goals for today's long run. We get it. Go ahead and keep it at that conversational, just talking it out, keeping it good, keeping it moving. Coach, that's not it, because we were having a game this week. We have recipes. I mean, tell me more.

Speaker 1:

Okay. So for our recipes, i actually found a randomizer, so we have the ability to put in nothing at all and hit the wheel and find out what our random recipe is, and we're going to encourage you guys to go ahead and share that. The random everything, the random recipe, the random outfit, whatever the most random thing you can find on your run is personally my favorite. So in the game of the week, we're going to go ahead and have a random wheel for athletes to spin and get an item to take a selfie with, and that's going to be the fun of the week, because we do love our randomness. Our questions this week to each other are random. We basically are just random. Brunch is not exactly catchy, but that's what we're going to do.

Speaker 2:

I am so excited. I love this. Just it like dings all of like the little pleasure signals in my brain that I love to associate with fun And this sounds like the perfect run. So, friends, with that said, you've got just under two minutes before we take it into that conversation pace. We're going to let you build into that conversation pace for about five minutes And then we will have our little random wheel of fun, and I cannot begin to tell you truly how excited I am. I can't wait for this to like. I want to go run it like right now.

Speaker 1:

We don't even know what it's going to be, but it's just another reminder. If you are not following us on social media, if you are not subscribing, if you are not on our newsletter, what are you waiting for? Please, after this run, take the time or stop now. If you need a little extra stretch break, join us on all the platforms, join our newsletter All of those links are in the episode notes because not only do we have random episodes, we have randomness throughout the week. I mean, again, i'm not going to stop talking about my princess dance party until the end of time, because it was the most fun I've ever had and the most random thing. Are you going to make it happen again? You think, um, have I already not made it happen at least five times since I took that ever loving selfie? Oh, i love it And I will tell you every day there's a different lipstick and I'm here.

Speaker 2:

Yes, that is wonderful. Seriously, it's such a great way to have a little summer surprise fun with your kiddos that are at home. So trying to figure out how to make fitness happen instead of making fetch happen, i think is really important to do it with that extra sense of whimsy with that said. Coach, did you say wonderful or wonderful? You should know Wonderful is how we roll around here.

Speaker 2:

I think we're all ready for a little bit of wonderful randomness coming on up. So, friends, we're going to bring it into that conversation pace again, building into that endurance pace in 15 seconds And I feel like a kid going to Disney World. I'm so excited, i can't wait to get into this run.

Speaker 1:

I feel like everybody's heart rates just went up like, okay, this five minute is going to be at that easy pace. So get those heart rates down and get into it in three, two and one, and while we get into the running motion, let's go ahead. I'm going to pull up my random questionnaire and I'm going to ask you a random question Are you ready? All right, and oh, this is a good one, which I know we've talked about before, but it can be a little bit more long winded with it. You did go to college And if yes, what was your major? Because this is always a fun little tiddy.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that is an interesting one. So double major with communications and marketing and business administration. But I originally went with a polycyte pre law and loved every single class that I took and I always kind of think back like should I have continued on that track? But the more that I talk to people that are in the industry it seems like I made the right choice not pursuing a law track for myself.

Speaker 1:

I could see you in a law room being like listen, everybody, let's just take a deep breath, we're going to pull out some crystals, right, like let's just try to compromise, we can all be a little bit of mediation. I could see you.

Speaker 2:

Mediation? definitely so there is. It's again one of those really interesting things, and I think most people who talk to me on first blush would never think that I would be attracted to the law, but I think as folks get to know me a little bit more, i can see where I would enjoy that kind of aspect of life. But happy with what I chose, there's no doubt about it. So funny, though, because I feel like some of the biggest lessons in college have nothing to do with what you learn in your classes, and some of the biggest lessons in life, or nothing that you would ever expect to come from. So, with that said, coach, i'm going to ask you a little bit of randomness. Okay, go for it. A genie grants you the ability to have infinite amounts of one item. What is it? And I feel like I know what it is because I feel like you already, like you didn't wait for a genie, you just made this happen for yourself.

Speaker 1:

I think it's going to surprise you, but I think the reasoning behind it is going to surprise you more. I honestly do really want an infinite amount of money, because I would love to be able to donate to schools and donate to charities and never have to worry about anybody having enough for anything ever again. So it's not. So I can have stuff, and I know that sounds like super cheesy, but it's true. I could end world hunger Not what I expected. I could end poverty That's totally not what I expected. What were you?

Speaker 2:

seriously thinking, i thought you would want all of the coffee mugs that you could possibly have.

Speaker 1:

I already have this. I actually I just talked myself out of having another coffee mug and we're just having a discussion in our household that we need to filter through our coffee mugs, and my husband and I were trying to figure out how to appropriately display all of the coffee mugs we have, and I do have a mug problem. I do not need a genie to help me with it.

Speaker 2:

I think you absolutely do have a little bit of a mug collection. I won't call it a problem.

Speaker 1:

It's not a problem. It's only a problem if you don't have a solution, and my solution is to use every single one of them.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, i was actually talking to a couple of brunchers and I kind of feel like you may not feel like a bit like Princess Ariel, but you are a little bit of Princess Ariel because I think that when it comes to like thingamabobs and all of those little bobbles, you tend to love your collection. So I figured that would be coffee mugs, but I love your response. I do love your response. With that said, friends, we are gearing up towards the end of this conversation block. You're just under about 75 seconds away before we officially kick off our running roulette random wheel. We can't wait All right.

Speaker 1:

So do you think we should pull it now or spin the wheel now, so we give everybody a little heads up of what's coming in the next minute? Make it happen. All right, i'm ready when you are. Spin that wheel. My lifelong dream. All right, it's going to be a two minute power pick up folks. So in just a few short, 45 ish seconds, you're going to have a two minute power pickup. Let's put the RP at. what are you thinking, coach?

Speaker 2:

Ooh, i would say that for this first pickup I would definitely lean towards a tempo which would probably be around a six ish, six to seven ish, but being a little bit more conservative, so maybe even a five to six, but anywhere from like a 15 to 20. second pickup of where you're at currently would be really good.

Speaker 1:

And that two minute pickup I think is a really good first wheel pull. So good job, random wheel. I do love the sound effects. I do. We spent. we spent a embarrassing amount of time, but we will go into that and let's get into that power pickup in three, two and one, two minutes on the clock at that power pickup pace And yeah, we probably spent I mean upwards of 15 minutes trying to figure out how to get that sound to come through but it was literally we downloaded new programs, we downloaded new apps, we tried different things with our recording, we tried two different recording studio platforms.

Speaker 2:

So we are excited because, well, it's always good to try new things.

Speaker 1:

And you know what? Again, we're having the randomness and it's it's going to go great.

Speaker 2:

Well, friends, you're doing phenomenal in this pickup. We're almost to the 60 second points to just about a minute left on this pickup. These are great to include in your long runs because when you do pull it on back into that conversation pace it may feel a little easier, a little lighter. It'll feel it'll actually feel like that effort that you were putting in earlier. that may have felt a little bit harder Isn't quite so hard to attain with this pickup. So there is a lot of benefits to these pickups in your long runs as well.

Speaker 1:

And I do think even from a non physical standpoint, the psychological benefits of kind of pushing yourself, getting out of the monotony of a long run. It's often why I subscribe pickups to my athletes during their long runs and they love that.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it does absolutely help, because I think anything that you could do to kind of, as you said, break up that monotony a little bit. With that said, we're going to go right back into a conversation pace block again in about 15 seconds. So keep pushing all the way through, our friends. We can't wait to get into some more randomness with you getting it on in three, two and one.

Speaker 1:

Back to that conversational pace. And I have a new question for you, And we always joke about our lack of rules. So this one I'm going to tell you upfront You have to pick somebody who is alive.

Speaker 2:

Oh, ok, i can do this. If people can use groups, if they can stretch themselves to do those two-minute power pickups, i can do this.

Speaker 1:

If you could switch lives with any one person for one day, who would you choose? Oh, my gosh Coach.

Speaker 2:

I know. Right now it feels like I just watched a documentary on this individual.

Speaker 1:

If it's Jeffrey Dahmer, I'm not even letting you answer this question?

Speaker 2:

Absolutely not. So I think I would pick this specific individual right now just because I loved her wardrobe and I loved her home decor. So it's probably Dieta Vontiz. For 24 hours, that's not who I thought you were going to be going for. You never know what I'm watching. I watch anything from documentaries on the physiological adaptations that we could make to our everyday life for longevity purposes, and I also watched documentaries on behind Dior and tell us a little bit more about how the Dior brand came to be. So you never going to really know with me. But yes, right now, dieta Vontiz's house is so on point. It's given me all those great gothy vibes and I want it.

Speaker 1:

I actually almost did buy these candles because we're making a whole Harry Potter corner in our house, because, yes, i am a super nerd And they have candles that are spines Like spines, and I really really want them even though you know Creepy is not my style, it just seems appropriate And I really, i really want them. I'm surprised.

Speaker 2:

That doesn't sound at all like you. What I know, right? How did that?

Speaker 1:

happen. I just we started with one thing with Harry Potter and then it cultivated into another And in the Harry Potter movies, i mean, it's all a little bit more magical and darker. So I don't know, it just seemed like a good idea.

Speaker 2:

Well, friends, as you're rolling through here, you probably should have found that conversation pace pretty easily. again. We're about two minutes in, just under three minutes to go before we have that randomizer wheel come back in and bring you in a little bit of running roulette fun. So catch your breath, make sure that you are rolling through nice and smooth, as I give Coach a little bit of extra time before I put her on the hot seat, because Coach, the random question generator, wants to know what is your worst habit.

Speaker 1:

Oh, saying sorry. I use sorry like a comma And it's something my mom love her. Hi mom, she gets on me a lot. I say sorry, so reflectively, And it doesn't diminish the fact that I'm sorry. I just I apologize for anything And I'll apologize to random objects, Like I'll bump into a wall and I will say sorry, It's just me. I have no idea why I do it, but that is my worst habit And I've been working on it for 30 plus years and I have not gotten any better.

Speaker 2:

I think have you tried a sorry jar.

Speaker 1:

What's that Like a accountability jar type of thing?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I took a swear jar, but you do it with, instead of whenever you swear, you put in a dollar or a token or something that represents how many times, just so you could physically have a representation of the many times that you do it.

Speaker 1:

Oh, no, but sorry.

Speaker 2:

You might want to give it a try. Just it'd be curious to see if, like you were, if you would surprise yourself by the end of the day, and if it helped to become a bit more mindful or aware.

Speaker 1:

I could try it. I tried the rubber band trip, but that just hurt too many times. So what I've started doing is going sorry, And then when I catch myself, I go not sorry, not sorry, And I yell it really loud, which is probably just as annoying, if not more than annoying. But we hope that our randomness is not annoying because we have one more minute or 60 seconds, as coach Christine would say, before we spin the wheel again. I'm kind of hoping we get a little bit of an extra surprise on this one. Well, I mean, they're all surprises like seriously.

Speaker 2:

I mean, yes, but we have some non-running surprises, That's true, Okay so do you want to go ahead and spin it now so people know what they can expect in their 30 seconds When we bring this block to an end? All right, hold on. Ah, coach, did you plan that?

Speaker 1:

We did not plan it but it was like, right on the line It's going to be stop and give us 10 squats. So we're going to go ahead and stop, pop off that treadmill or pull off to the side of the road.

Speaker 2:

In three, two and one, give us 10 squats and make them low And then just get right back into that conversation pace. We'll go ahead and use that five minute block right here And now as well, as you guys are rolling through those. So it's one of those things that you don't have to rush through them, because the longer you're taking those squats, the less time you have to get back to your running.

Speaker 1:

I'd say, maybe work on that squat form just a little bit more, but hopefully you've gotten them in. So if you have, let's go ahead and get back into that conversational pace in three, two and one. You knew I was going to throw some squats. I knew you were going to throw them in.

Speaker 2:

But man, talk about setting it up. It's like I feel like you had a conversation with the randomizer wheel and you're like hey, like, just so you know, squats are my favorite, make it happen.

Speaker 1:

A little telepathy. Oh my goodness, I feel like this one's going to be really telling for you. This next random question I'm actually really interested What actor would you choose to play you in a bio pic?

Speaker 2:

Oh gosh, i have no idea, like I truly have no idea. I feel like Dita Fonteese. I'm just wondering right, goodness, i wish I feel like she's so elegant. I don't know, i really don't know. You're going to have to answer this question and let me think it through a little bit.

Speaker 1:

I don't, but the problem is is like I don't feel like any actresses look like me So I would have to go off of just who I really like I would go with personality versus how much they may look like you, because I think that getting those doppelgangers in the acting world is hard.

Speaker 1:

Right, and I really don't feel like I'm one of a kind No one really likes me. Looks like me, no one likes me, i would probably say. My first thought was Jessica Chastain. Ok, ok, i really I love her as an actress. I also just watched her in the Martian, so, again, heavily influenced in what's happening our day to day lives. But she's really a prolific actress and I love her. So that's not who.

Speaker 2:

I expected for you. I would have expected you to go for somebody quirkier, a little bit more like of a comedic actor, just because that's.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I've gotten Drew Barrymore a lot.

Speaker 2:

I don't know that I would give you Drew, because I think Drew is quirky but she's more weird quirky.

Speaker 1:

And I think, I mean I think you're just immune to me.

Speaker 2:

More funny, quirky, so like I think of more in a granted way older than you, but more like a Tina Fey or somebody from like the SNL that has more of that funny, witty kind of just approach to how they do it. I think Jessica Chastain is absolutely gorgeous, there's no doubt about it. But I feel like, although she's a great dramatic actress, i don't know that I have the same kind of vibe from her as for porkiness that you kind of give So interesting, hmm, interesting. All right, you've stalled long enough.

Speaker 1:

I have no idea.

Speaker 2:

I don't know how to even answer that. I wouldn't even truly. I guess I don't follow celebrity names sufficiently to even really think of it.

Speaker 1:

So now you don't follow elites or celebrities? What do you do with all your free time?

Speaker 2:

Yes, yes there is no doubt I'm not huge into following celebrities. I think I love voice actors. There's a voice actress that I absolutely adore and she would be super fun, but I'm pretty sure that she likes being a voice actor instead of actually being in front of the camera.

Speaker 1:

So I don't know. All right, i'll give you. I'll give you a mulligan, ok? So if your five year old self met you today, what would they be most impressed by?

Speaker 2:

Oh my goodness, my five year old self. I feel like your tiara collection. I was gonna say it would have to be something sparkly. Anything that I've actually achieved, my five-year-old self would not care, but anything that has to do with sparklyus, I think they'd be super stoked. Yeah, probably. My tiara is probably some of my really sparkly shoes.

Speaker 1:

The fact that you live right near Disney. They would be so proud.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so very proud that I've made that happen. Probably, actually, i wondered too if my five-year-old self even comprehended how big the world was, if maybe they'd be a little bit impressed with some of the travels. So that's a good one, coach, though we are coming on up to that time where we probably need to spin the wheel. So let me get you a question real quick, because I feel like you need to answer one here. Oh, I like this one a lot. What's one place you've traveled that you would never, ever, ever wanna go back to? Oh, i'm not very well traveled, i mean, for me, the answer is immediately Walmart.

Speaker 1:

Like I don't. I love Walmart, i hate going to Walmart.

Speaker 2:

I hate it so much.

Speaker 1:

You hate shopping in general.

Speaker 2:

I love online shopping But, with that said, i'll let you think that through, since you were very gracious in letting me think of mine through, and I think it's time for us to pull that randomizer because, while folks are rolling through this conversation pace, maybe we can give them a little bit of what they can expect.

Speaker 1:

All right, let's run the wheel. All right, i didn't mean to say bit too much, you just chose the right wheel, all right, so we're goin' to put in the他是kell board here Heuca거 motor truck. Yeah, that's gotta be easy. Got too much, though, having someone taking that that could be really tough to keep on rebuilding. So let's admit theiary iknowtemnet with this video. It's gonna be spicy, but we know you guys can do it.

Speaker 2:

We're doing it in three, two and one. Let's go, friends. This is more along the lines of your tempo or upper tempo pace. It's also called sentence pace. We're not really getting quite yet.

Speaker 2:

Well, maybe a little bit of that one to two word pace here as well.

Speaker 2:

Either way, this is usually the effort that you would hold. At least if you're in that six area, you'd be able to hold it for at least an hour. You wouldn't want to, you would hate it, you'd be really angry with us. You may send us a text if you were one of our athletes saying please don't make me do this, but it does have a lot of benefits and it's a lot of great benefits adding it here into your long run as well. So again, we know it's a little bit of a longer block. We also are very, very, very, very confident that you can pull it off. If you're looking at specifically like a pace metric wise, this would be about 30 seconds faster than you would be looking at for your conversation pace. So, definitely picking it up, being a little bit shortening the stride, focusing on your cadence with your light foot touch and a little light forward, lean at the ankle, keep pushing on through. Coach, i have now given you plenty of time. Where do you never want to go back to?

Speaker 1:

All right, so this is going to have a little prefacing, like everything else. I have not been here since I was younger because we were doing a road trip as a family And this specific place we wanted to go to because it was mentioned in a movie And we thought it was going to be amazing. We stayed there for less than 12 hours because we checked into our hotel, realized there was not a whole lot to do and promptly checked out And I'm sorry if any of our runners live there, but please share the fun things to do.

Speaker 2:

But Myrtle Beach, oh my gosh, i have heard this so much about Myrtle Beach. Ok, again, not trying to be controversial, not trying to be offensive, but I have heard from multiple people that they were always disappointed when they went to Myrtle Beach. They had heard all these great things about it And then when they got there, it felt a little less than what they had put into their mind that they were going to experience. So you are not the only person who has said that.

Speaker 1:

We actually left so fast. My dad forgot his clothing bag And we had to call the hotel and try to get it back. And again, i was probably still in elementary school when we went there And, yeah, it was not really the best place But it was made a bucket list item by October. Sky the movie I don't know if you've ever seen that probably not, but great movie. The mom wanted to retire to Myrtle Beach, which she did, and let's just say I don't get it, but anyway we're going to. I'm sorry to all the people in Myrtle Beach right now listening to this.

Speaker 2:

It's OK, they know too. This is another first time they've heard it, i'm sure.

Speaker 1:

In the spirit of controversy, my next question what do you like that everyone else seems to dislike?

Speaker 2:

Oh, I mean I love like Danger, stranger, Stranger, danger 8 stations. I'm shocked when I hear people don't like them. Me I do like. Oh, i think I know one that I. It's a traditional food that I grew up eating that I think most people are immediately turned off by. It's actually probably two. One is called Canepa And it's like a it's almost like a leechy, but it's not So it's a little gelatinous, it's a fruit And it looks like a grape has a hard shell. But you actually kind of open up that hard shell and eat this like gelatinous part of the fruit and with a really big pit. So I like it.

Speaker 1:

It sounds like a running gel.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it probably could be actually. So I love that one. Most people usually think it's gross And I also love a specific cult And I feel bad even saying this to you. It's called the blood sausage, basically. Oh, yeah, i've heard of them. It's delicious, i grew up having it. It's got rice in it, it's spicy And, yeah, it's not something that I have very often because I'm sure that it has like zero nutritional value except high in iron. But yeah, that's something that I think most people that didn't cope with it dislike.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, i'll pass that on to you. But one thing we're not going to pass on is telling you guys, you've done amazing. We only have 30 seconds left of this block And then we're going to go back into that five minute conversational block. Take a little sip of water, take a little extra breath, maybe stretch it out if you need, but I'm kind of loving this running roulette And I think we might have to bring this back. You guys are going to have to let us know what you think of it, because this is really fun, aren't we?

Speaker 2:

It really actually is, because we are so excited to literally get all this randomness while we're going through here. So, with that said, let's bring it back into that conversation block in three, two and one. This is where I'm going to encourage you not to go straight into a stop, though. Spend at least 30 seconds bringing yourself down back into a conversation pace or a little bit of a walk if you need to catch your breath Again. As Coach Shelby said, you're on that long run. You've been going for quite some time, always great to check in with your hydration and your fueling if you're going the distance here today.

Speaker 2:

So, with that said, you'll feel right at home and right as rain. And just a few more moments, because you've probably just ready to catch your breath. Your heart rate's starting to come down a little bit. Coach, i want to ask you because I swear this was the randomizer And it cracks me up. It's like it knew that this question was real What's an incredibly strong opinion that you hold and have? But it's completely unimportant in the grand scheme of things, because, girl, you get riled up about some things And I'm like I've never knew.

Speaker 1:

I know too.

Speaker 2:

The 8K. Oh my god, Don't talk to me about 8K Like it's like something you and you get feisty about it And it's like it's really strong And I'm like I don't think I feel this strongly about anything.

Speaker 1:

OK, this is a conversation I actually had with one of my one-on-one athletes And we spent probably five minutes of her check and call talking about this. I hate when kids shows don't give you the mother effing of backstory of why things are the way they are. Like it bothers me to my core. Like they just they introduce these story lines And you're like, ok, how did they get these special powers? How did this person marry this person? What happened to the other parent in the story? Like you just assume things, but I want to know the backstory. And oh my god, why am I getting so frustrated?

Speaker 2:

I'm hearing it And I knew like the minute this question came up, i was like if it would have been a question you asked me, there's not one thing that I could have possibly responded to. My heart rate just really went up. It's like you're in a tempo pace right now, like you're so fiercely passionate about these things, and it's like I just hate it Because I have so many questions And then I'm that person.

Speaker 1:

then it has to Google what episode, like the story lines explained, because I don't like just being thrown into the story Like I want to know the characters, i want to know how they became. And it's really frustrating too when your child asks you these questions and you don't have the answers. And, yeah, this is OK, that's definitely irrational Because it does not matter, but it really just it. I know this isn't the right way to use it Because I've gotten schooled in our brunch crew, but it really butters my biscuit. I think you just love that phrase. I do. Why am I touching my biscuit? Just let me butter my own, darn biscuit.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, i'm still going to go with the original thing. It is definitely a good thing And you guys are welcome to butter my biscuit And actually now I think I want biscuits. Post race fuel, absolutely after we're done getting this run in. Ok, coach, we're three minutes into this conversation pace. We've got just under two minutes before we have our next surprise block come on up. So I know that you're going to let folks know, probably in about another 75 seconds. Until then, what do you think we should?

Speaker 1:

I have another question. Would you rather be stuck on a broken ski lift or in a broken elevator?

Speaker 2:

Oh my gosh, this one's so easy for me Like, oh my god, yeah, this one's like. This one's a like no thought process whatsoever. I have such a wicked fear of heights that I forced myself to do those ski lifts or any of those type of like the, i think, the Skyliner over at Disney. I forced myself to do that, but I literally have to have an entire conversation with myself to like do breath work, work into my meditation, try to like get past that irrational fear. So when the Skyliner buckets come to a stop because of whatever reason, i have been there And I have started to sweat. I started to sweat in like my palms and in my feet. So I'd rather be an elevator.

Speaker 1:

I don't mean to laugh, but I feel like your heart rate just went up sweaty right now, like I heard it in your voice.

Speaker 2:

It's. I really got my fear of heights is no joke, but I am actually working on it. Like I literally forced myself into these situations. So if it's driving mountain roads or going to higher elevations, i forced myself to do it because I don't want to paralyze me. But with that said, let's, let's move into something that's not quite so so fear inducing, hopefully, for folks. Let's, let's spin this wheel.

Speaker 1:

All right, i'm going to give you a second to take some deep breaths. Let's spin it. I feel like this wheel is definitely listening to our conversation because it just picked a 30 second sprint. So let's go ahead, put it on up, get those heart rates going in 3, 2, and 1, 30 second sprint here, giving a lot of juice behind this, making sure we're not crossing our arms across our body. We are using it, keeping those quick steps and controlling our breathing. It's going to be hard for you already halfway through And I'm going to keep talking. You threw it every step of the way, so you're just in your head. You're going shut up, coach. I'm trying to survive right now But in actuality it's helping because you're all done in 3, 2, and 1, bringing it back nice and gradual into that 5 minute nice easy pace, that 3 to 4 on the RPE scale. I feel like my heart rate is just going to stay up the rest of this episode.

Speaker 2:

I love those. I do So again whether you're introducing sprints or more of a traditional working on strides in your workouts. These are also so beneficial to add because it really does help you in gaining that really strong running form. So I'm super stoked. You guys should feel a little taller here and maybe even a little lighter as you're rolling through. But do a head to toe check. Make sure that you didn't creep those shoulders up to your ears, as we sometimes tend to do, and you're not white knuckling it with your hands. So a little shake out as you continue to roll through this 5 minute block. All right, coach, i feel like it's your turn on the hot seat. All right, it's warm. This one's like. I feel like there's no way You could have just one. But what's the worst maybe you've ever seen?

Speaker 1:

Oh my gosh, There are a lot. So my first thought was hocus pocus. That's not my worst one. The second one was Deepwater Horizon. And then I really don't like stepbrothers. I'm sorry to all of those people that don't like it, but I'm trying to think of one that my husband really likes, that I always yell at him to turn off. And the one that's coming to mind is called Chasing Mavericks And it has Gerard Butler in it And it's not a bad movie. I just don't like it because of the ending And it makes me sad. So I'm going to probably go with Chasing Mavericks.

Speaker 2:

I like it, i dig it. I can tell you that my all time least favorite movie or I should say I walked out of it was Shallow Hell. I just hated every aspect of it. I mean I should have known better. The entire name says it Shallow Hell. But gosh, it was such a horrible movie. It was just what. I never seen it. You don't want to, it's like just there was.

Speaker 2:

So I don't even think that people could go back and watch this movie. It wasn't appropriate when it came out in the early 2000s. It definitely would be canceled right here and now, and I'm sure that Jack Black wishes that he could somehow some way like just bury this stuff And I'm sure it went with Paltrow as well, and like that nobody would see it. But if you guys like Shallow Hell, you'll have to let us know why. Like, what redeeming value did that have for you? Two and a half minutes left here in this block before we have another opportunity. We're rolling right through friends. This long grin should hopefully feel like it's just blowing through because really, as it's all said and done, we're about almost 40 minutes into our time together.

Speaker 1:

Which is a perfect timing for truly the most random question, And I'm really excited to hear you answer If you were a vegetable what vegetable would you be?

Speaker 2:

I want to show you my screen, because I have the exact same one. Came up from the random question or generator. So, friends, we really honestly did. While you have heard us say that this was well planned in terms of all of the different structure aspect of it, this is all truly, 100% live, and I'm telling you, i'm looking at my screen. It says if you were a vegetable, what vegetable would you be? The little random duck behind it, okay? So yeah, i love this question. These are the type of questions that, for some reason, i just dig so much, but I want to fit the row. I would love to say I feel like I'd want to be a zucchini, because zucchinis are living their best lives right now.

Speaker 1:

And I'm going to tell you why. You can be a noodle, you can be a vegetable.

Speaker 2:

You can be so versatile as a zucchini. Nowadays, Like back in the day, zucchini was just a zucchini, but now you can make a zucchini boat and, like you know, core it out a little bit and make some deliciousness on top. You can become a zucchini noodle, As you said. You can roast it up and roast your vegetables on the best. You can make a zucchini chip Like. So I think. I think I'm going to go ahead and hone in on the zucchini, because I'm able to be more than just a zucchini.

Speaker 1:

I love the fact you had like a well thought out everything.

Speaker 2:

I can't tell you a celebrity I'd want to play me, but I could tell you what vegetable I'd want to be girl for sure. Now, what's your vegetable?

Speaker 1:

Well, i'm going to go ahead and I'm going to spin the wheel before I go into my dissertation of what vegetable I'm going to be. So let's spin the wheel, all right. The wheel loves me. It knows my love language. It's going to stop and give us 10 squats again, so let's go ahead and squat it out in three, two and one. It's just the wheel reminding us that we need to engage our glutes on every single run.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely.

Speaker 1:

And I mean again, a peach might be a fruit, but maybe it's also subliminally telling us that we should all dream about our dream vegetable, or dream of fruit.

Speaker 2:

Well, I think that, with that said, we're going to probably keep folks going on these squats making sure they're using that great strong form, and then we're all going to return back to a conversation pace block so that Coach can tell us all about her vegetable in three, two and one. If you're not quite done with your 10, go ahead and finish them up and just get back to it whenever you'd like. But for the rest of us, let's go ahead and get back into that conversation block and Coach tell us your veggie.

Speaker 1:

All right, so I have not. I'm going to pull on the record here I have not put a lot of thought into this prior to this question, but as I started thinking about it, i have a really like. I have various reasons. So I'm going to be a carrot because you can eat me raw, which, oh God, that sounded really freaking bad. I did not mean it that way, guys. This is not PG 13, but it can be raw, it can be cooked, it can be in salads, it can be in dishes, it can be roasted and bunnies like it And I love bunnies And you can make it into like candied bacon.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I didn't even think about that.

Speaker 1:

I'm vegetarian.

Speaker 2:

Yes, yes, you are Well, I mean, I would hope so as a vegetable, but yes, I love that. Okay. So I think that at the core of these veggie questions is the fact that we basically want to be versatile with whatever we choose to be. Does that sound? We don't want to be one trick pony as our vegetable choice.

Speaker 1:

I just love the fact that that was the easiest question I think of ever. It really, was It really really?

Speaker 2:

was Okay. Coach, if you had to change your name, what would you change it to?

Speaker 1:

I always really likes the name Carmen. Oh, that's interesting Because I always loved the name Opera.

Speaker 2:

What opera? There's an opera named Carmen, okay, so that's. That's not why, oh no, that's.

Speaker 1:

That's not why I actually think it's from spy kids. Because I grew up with spy kids and her name was Carmen. I always just thought it was a little mysterious. I mean, i love my name. For a long time I actually didn't love my name, carmen San Diego.

Speaker 2:

Okay, no, okay. I really do love that our points of reference your age is showing. I also love our points of references being so out there. I'm like is it from the opera?

Speaker 1:

You're like no, oh my God, i'm like no, it's from, it's from spy kids, because her name was Carmen And I really I liked the name Carmen. I thought it was a little exotic, it was a little bit different And I just I like it. It's a good name.

Speaker 2:

It is a good name. I like it as well. With that said, friends, we are rolling right on through here And you've got about two and a half minutes left of this conversation block And I know that coach will be pulling that random wheel And I will tell you she's got more on the just squats. I don't think that she like stacked the wheel with just squats, friends. It just so happens that the wheel is choosing it because it loves you.

Speaker 1:

Hey again, maybe it's just telling us that we need to stop and smell the roses, smell the squats. I don't think we really want to do that, but before we, before we get into the next wheel, what was your favorite childhood toy?

Speaker 2:

I had so many because of the big age difference between my, my brother and myself, and my parents were very financially secure by the time I came around. I think they wanted to spoil me with every single thing that they possibly could. So big shout out to my parents for trying to spoil me And I think it worked. But my favorite toy I had to have been some dog, oh no, it was Teddy. Teddy the little gosh. His name was Teddy, like he was a teddy rest Ruckspin or something like that. Oh God, those things are creepy. I loved him so much. He was my favorite. I loved putting the cassette in his belly and him telling me a story. He was just snuggable. Yeah, he was playing my favorite. I did love me some of my little ponies, though, like straight up, my little ponies were great, but Teddy was probably my favorite.

Speaker 1:

Oh, that thing was creepy as all get out, i think, my favorite. I had a bear that I'd gotten on a family trip in Michigan And I named him something super original. His name was Michigan Bear. That's great, though I still have him, i haven't packed away.

Speaker 2:

It's interesting that both of ours were bears, though They were both teddy bears. Okay, mine was creepy. That kind of goes on its own brand, with mine like choices, and yours is probably cuter, but still, i'm digging it All right. With that said, let's go ahead and spin that wheel, because I don't know how we already made it, but we did to this to the end of this block.

Speaker 1:

All right, hold up, let's go. All right, see, there are more than squats on here. Now we're going to stop for 10 jumping jacks. So again, if you're on that treadmill, push the pause, hop off for safety reasons, get off the sidewalk into the grass and let's do 10 jumping jacks in three, two and one. I think I'd actually rather do jumping jacks than squats in the middle of a run. What about you? It is phenomenal.

Speaker 2:

And I do love that these are both like old school body weight, calisthenic type moves that have so much great value. With jumping jacks or jumping jackies or star jumps, Everyone refers to them. They're great to help and get your heart rate up in a pretty safe fashion. So again, friends, utilize whatever alternative to these that you may need. Maybe you're not doing a traditional jumping jack, You're just kind of bringing one leg at a time. That's perfect, but we're girls of whatever variation you use. Get back into that easy peasy conversation pace. In about three, two and one, We'll go back into that block And you definitely probably have to take a quick little pause, catch your breath and then just get right back to it. I love jumping jacks. I think they're a lot of fun.

Speaker 1:

I actually do too. I hated them in school. I mean, I hated running in school too, and we see where that went. But we're going to go from what we hate and what we love, So I feel like this is going to be a hard one for you. Only one who is your favorite? author?

Speaker 2:

Oh sheesh, that's impossible, that's unfair, like that's just That There's no way that I could pick one favorite author. I would have to be like one favorite author per category of type of book And even then, nope, that's not how we're playing, i guess. Oh gosh, i'm going to have to. I feel like there's a little bit of a theme or talking about things like that were pivotal in our childhood. During this randomizer or maybe it's because this random question generator has this little rubber ducky that's like super chillax and making me think of childhood things.

Speaker 2:

I'm thinking of one of my favorite childhood book series And I won't say childhood because it was probably not appropriate for a child. It was more like my preteen kind of area, like type of life. I did love like the babysitters club. I did love Nancy Drew, but honestly I loved me some VC Andrews. Like it had a little mystery, it had a little drama, somebody always got like killed off in it And for some reason I just like There was always a little bit of like just weirdness in it And obviously that's made quite a big influence in who I am And I just like that little bit of weirdness. So VC Andrews was one of my favorites growing up And I think that that translated to Anne Rice And I fell mad in love with all Anne Rice's books And actually there's fascinating documentaries, if anybody's interested in some of them. She's just such a very interesting and that was an interesting individual. So I think those are the top two that come to mind.

Speaker 1:

I have to laugh. A couple weeks ago on the radio I heard about like red flags and relationships And one of the biggest red flags was of people like, like true crime and like murder mystery and all this. And immediately my head went to you And I'm like no, that's not a red flag, that's just Christine.

Speaker 2:

But I mean, i've done the research on it as to why it tends to be obviously gravitate towards your crime, And evidently it is because it's something that we kind of have to navigate life from a place of fear, like you can't just go out in the middle of the night for a run, right. So supposedly the reason why we gravitate towards your crime is it kind of puts a face to it and helps to feel more prepared in the light of these things. I don't know, i like it. But how about you Coach, my favorite?

Speaker 1:

author. I don't read that much. I know I'm trying to do better with it, but I'm going to go with Shell Silverstein. Okay, i really enjoyed his books, interesting Their children's books, just for the record before you start getting too excited, i mean.

Speaker 2:

I love it all. I love Sidney Sheldon too, And like there was a Catholic priest who became an author I think his name was Andrew Greer. He was phenomenal, Okay, anyway, so yeah the giving tree.

Speaker 1:

Shell Silverstein's the giving tree. I loved it as a kid. I love that. It's one of my comfort books. That's so sweet We really are very different.

Speaker 2:

We are, okay, i'm gonna ask this one. This one should be easy for you What's your favorite piece of clothing you own?

Speaker 1:

Oh gosh, i'm gonna go with Ashley, like from a comfort level, the dress I'm wearing, it's super cute, by the way. Thanks, it's just. My mom always called it a Schmatte, which is like a house dress, i guess it's Yiddish. But it's a tie-dye dress and it has the straps where you can adjust like where it hits you. And I got it at a green market locally And I just love it. It's just fun to fun to throw on And I don't know, it's easy peasy. It does nothing for me but I don't really care.

Speaker 2:

Oh, i love that. So in Spanish it would call it call like a vata, which is like a house, like a house dress or like a house gown kind of a thing. So that's interesting that Yiddish and Spanish are so closely related with that. With that said, coach, i think are we gonna do it? Are we gonna do one more?

Speaker 1:

We're gonna spin it and see what the wheel gives us. Okay, all right, this is a good one. This is gonna be four times three minutes, at an RP of five to six, with a 30 second walk recovery in between.

Speaker 2:

So this really does wrap it up. That was. That is a great way to wrap up this long run. So I'm ready if you're ready, coach.

Speaker 1:

All right, let's go ahead and do it in three, two and one. The first rep three minutes at the RP of five to six. Love it Getting up there, that is so much fun.

Speaker 2:

So a little bit of a fast finish for this long run, knowing that we will have it cool down on the other side of it as well. And this is that time, my friends, you get to like put that pedal to the metal and enjoy it.

Speaker 1:

Exactly, And again a little bit of something different, which brings me to my next question Are you allergic to anything?

Speaker 2:

Oh, man the like inside my brain. immediately I wanted to say I'm allergic to BS, but that's probably actually not true, yeah.

Speaker 1:

I mean I'm allergic to it, but it still keeps coming up. It's in the air.

Speaker 2:

Yes, i do have really bad allergies. I always have actually, and have had to go to allergies pretty much my entire life As an adult. I've got them much better under control And it's basically like I've had the skin test for allergies. They said that's actually probably the best way of getting tested if you've got sensitive skin, And it came back that I was allergic to everything, but since then I'm allergic to air, literally. It was when you know there are people who are allergic to like water and that's just mind blowing to me. But anyway, that's a whole another.

Speaker 1:

There's people that are allergic to sweat too. I used to work with somebody who was allergic to her sweat. Can you?

Speaker 2:

imagine how horrible that would be.

Speaker 1:

Like you, can't live in Florida, especially living in Florida Like you have to move.

Speaker 2:

So anyway, with that said, yes, i'm allergic to everything, but primarily I have really bad seasonal allergies. Here in Florida I think it already does, though.

Speaker 1:

I mean, yeah, i think that's like if you move to Florida you get an allergy. It's just, it's our welcoming gift. Yep, i'm actually allergic to latex.

Speaker 2:

I was too. I was too for the record, so that was always really difficult. Going into any kind of like medical procedure, i'd have to let them know, so I would wear the different type of gloves. With that said, friends, you guys are not allergic to hard work because you are doing it right here And now. With less than 50 seconds left of this block, you'll have a 30 second recovery. So keep pushing through, checking in on that form and keeping those feet nice and light.

Speaker 1:

And we're learning a lot about each other. I like the random questions. This I like more than like personality quizzes. I just like asking random questions. I feel like that's one of my superpowers.

Speaker 2:

I mean, yes, i would say that I could see this feels very on brand to like your style, like I could see you doing this for just like a family fun outing, like just throwing things into a random wheel and figuring it out that way, kind of letting the fates decide. This is my brain.

Speaker 1:

This is how my brain operates. So if your brain operates that way, we are two peas in the pod. If not, that's okay. Maybe think about your own random questions. We're gonna go into our 30 second walking recovery in three, two and one. Even if you don't walk it out here, you can bring it down to a light jog. That is a-okay. And maybe you are rolling along saying this is the perfect ending to my run. We are here for it. Or, if you can keep on going, you can always listen to one of our other episodes where we're still random, but maybe not as random as this one. But again, we don't make any promises, because what's brunch without a lot of randomness? Absolutely, that's what makes it fun, exactly. but either way, let's go ahead and go into our next three minute RP of five to six in three, two and one. The second rep going in hot And I can't remember. is it my turn to ask?

Speaker 2:

or your turn to ask. I think it's my turn to ask and I'm excited about this one, and it's. If your family has to describe you to somebody who doesn't know you, what do they say or what kind of words do they use to describe you?

Speaker 1:

It depends on the day.

Speaker 2:

Generally, what would they do? How would they describe you?

Speaker 1:

Do I have to pick?

Speaker 2:

like one word or like try to do a couple of words. You can do a couple of words because I'm not mean. I'm like you're trying to make me only pick one author. That's so nice. Notice, by the way, i couldn't figure out celebrity because I don't know any. But you ask author and I'm like, oh, i don't know how to like narrow it down.

Speaker 1:

I would probably think that my family describes me as supportive, loving, hardworking and courteous.

Speaker 2:

I love all of those. See, i feel quirky in my soul when it comes to you and you are absolutely supportive and loving and hardworking. So, yeah, those are great.

Speaker 1:

Those are really great. I hope they say that. Other than that, they're gonna call me a pain in the you know what.

Speaker 2:

That's the phrase that comes to mind if people were to have to describe me like about me.

Speaker 2:

I thought you were gonna say me for sure, like that's exactly how I feel, like most folks would, and that's something that I can say, though, like, if I love you, if I'm in your corner, i'm likely going to be a pain in the rear, because I'm going to challenge folks to push a little harder and to kind of really like excel at things that I know they're capable of. So I can see where, yes, i am a pain in the rear, and I also think it's because I love people and I want to see them, like, really live their best lives.

Speaker 1:

So with that said I legit, I legit thought you were gonna just say that I was, and I wasn't even mad at it.

Speaker 2:

I'm like she knows me, She understands me Yeah, no so you're never a pain to me, but I could see where maybe at home, like you know, you're living your best life and just being who you are. That's cool. We got 60 seconds left of this block before we get that 30 second recovery coach, and I can't wait till we get to our cooldown too, because I want to talk more about the random recipes and all that jazz. This has been a lot of fun. I can't believe we're going through this so quickly.

Speaker 1:

It really is And before we bring everybody down to the recovery this is again another random question, but something I would ask in my real life What's your favorite item of furniture?

Speaker 2:

Oh, um item. It doesn't have to be one that you own. Oh, like interesting, like like your dream piece of furniture.

Speaker 1:

A painting couch. I'm going to have to Google this as we go into our next block. So, if you hopefully no one feels like they're fainting If you do, please pull it on back, but we're going to be going into our 30 seconds active recovery, that light jog or that power walk in five, four, three, two and one 30 seconds here. Well, i Google it. How would you describe a fainting couch? Okay, it's a fainting couch. I'm going to have to Google this as we go into our next block.

Speaker 2:

Okay, it's beautiful. It's an older Victorian style piece, even though they've modernized it, but it was originally traditionally more popularized during the Victorian times, when women would corset it, and they may actually corset it to the type, to the point where they would lose air and faint, and that's the story anyway. I don't know how real that is, but aesthetically it's completely impractical and just absolutely beautiful to me, which probably says a lot about my personality. With that said, friends, let's go back into it. Our next set is on the block. Great Work in 3, 2, and 1. Keep it up. You're already over the halfway point of these harder efforts and I'm so excited.

Speaker 1:

So it looks to me it's like the couch that Rose laid on when Jack was drawn to her new titan.

Speaker 2:

That's exactly it. Yes, that is it.

Speaker 1:

Like it's not my favorite movie or my favorite scene, but that's exactly what it is. So it's like the old version of a futon.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, i guess, i guess. So It made me so sad in calling it a futon. Sorry, it's a plush futon, but yes, i do love it. And again, this goes back to that whole Dita Von Tees thing. Like, this is the kind of styles of furniture she has in her really goth glam home. So that's kind of what my aesthetic tends to gravitate towards.

Speaker 1:

I'm here for it. Ok, that's fine. Any big comfy chair that I get swallowed up in is great for me. I get to see that I love comfy chairs.

Speaker 2:

I think that whether it's a feigning couch or a big comfy chair, everybody who's getting through this workout is looking forward to their own seat on one of these aspects of being able to relax a little bit. But keep pushing right here and now, because when you do finally make it to your couch or your big comfy chair, you're going to feel so incredibly proud of yourself for continuing to push through and for challenging yourself during this workout.

Speaker 1:

Absolutely, And again I hope you guys had fun with it And I feel like this is one that you can pull out at any time when you're a little bored on the run and just need some good old fashioned random, absolutely.

Speaker 2:

And now I found there's a New York Times article on the history of the feigning couch. So guess what I'll be doing after I'm on my rest and recovery.

Speaker 1:

You're going to have to share that on social media because now we want to know.

Speaker 2:

All right, ok, let's get you a question before you make it into our next recovery block, because folks have about 65. Well, actually about 70 seconds here. If you lost all of your possessions but one, what would you want it to be?

Speaker 1:

So actually something physical, which it's really hard because there's nothing I own physically Like, as long as I have my peeps, my peoples, I'll be fine.

Speaker 2:

It would be like your phone or your running shoes, or your shocks or your garment.

Speaker 1:

I feel like no, i mean OK, i think I actually know what it would be My grandma, who is no longer with us. When she passed away we obviously had her possessions and everything And there was a necklace that she had. That is a watch And it was around like locket type of watch And when you pressed it it would open up to the watch. I have to say that's always been like that to me, epitomized my grandma and what she was, who she was. It was one of her favorite pieces. So I think that would be one thing I would really want to keep.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I love that. I love that. It has a sentimental value for you as well, which I think does say a lot about your personality, as we learned during the Mother's Day episode too. So, friends, let's bring it back into our 30 second walking recovery in three, two and one. And if you want to make a mental notice of these random questions we're asking each other, you want to join in on the fun Again. Join us in the community page, drop in maybe some of your responses and answers to all of this randomness, or let us know what you think about this style of brunch that we are partaking in.

Speaker 1:

I feel like the random stuff, especially on the runs, like that's what keeps our minds going, that keeps us distracted, And even with the pickups, I think it keeps you mentally in it. So let's stay mentally in it for our last one in three, two and one, maybe making that RP closer to that six. Only here for three minutes, And I'm excited because I don't think I know this answer about you either. Ok, let's go for it. What was your very first job?

Speaker 2:

Oh my gosh, that's a great question. My very first job was actually at a manufacturing plant. I used to go with my mom who worked there And I kept asking to help And of course she was like, yeah, sure, just start working on it. And then they kind of hired me so that I could help just drink a summer And I was super stoked because I wanted to be able to buy certain things for back to school. But I knew that my parents wouldn't necessarily have considered as important as I thought. So, ironically, the biggest thing was I wanted the newest pair of picks. So I worked that summer to be able to buy what was considered the cool pair of picks for going back to school that year. How about you? What was your first?

Speaker 1:

day. Do you want to take a wild guess of where I had my first job? Probably with your dad. It was the bowling alley. No way, i used to host birthday parties at the bowling alley.

Speaker 2:

Oh my gosh, you've been an entertainer your entire life.

Speaker 1:

Apparently, that was my very first job when I turned 14. I feel like, and it was fun I got a lot of free pizza.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I feel like if you would have lived in Central Florida, you would have been a best friend with one of the Disney characters. I really honestly feel like that would have been your gig.

Speaker 1:

Probably, absolutely Probably. Second job was build a pair. Oh my gosh.

Speaker 2:

Like seriously, so amazing, like you really are a natural born entertainer. Well, with that said, friends, hopefully you feel entertained, because now I feel like, is that not from Gladiator?

Speaker 1:

I don't know. These are not Shelby friendly movies for seeing.

Speaker 2:

Well, folks, i know that you're entertained. You have 60 seconds here. This is your opportunity. If you do want to push a little bit more, feel free to do so here, because, knowing that we will have a five minute walking cool down on the other side And you've got what it takes just checking with that form And this is Coach's favorite swan song opportunity to push up the pace a bit.

Speaker 1:

I mean seriously. it's the last little bit, It's the end of the run. no-transcript, Don't just talk about it.

Speaker 2:

Be about it. Oh, Coach, Coach is coming in with all the like Shelby-isms to help support you guys through and make it happen.

Speaker 1:

Apparently, randomness makes me extra feisty.

Speaker 2:

I like it.

Speaker 1:

Do you like my feisty side, Christine? I do, I do.

Speaker 2:

All right, folks, you've got this. Just 15 seconds left on the clock and then we're gonna bring it back into our cooldown, and I am so very excited and cannot wait to hear everybody's thoughts on today's brunch. And five, four, three, two and one. While we didn't put it on the spinning wheel, we do want you all to smile and pat yourself on the back right here And now. We are gonna go ahead and just spend a little bit of time cooling it down and talking about these randomizer recipes that we are going to employ for this week in the newsletter. Of course, coach Tommy, what are you thinking that you're going to make happen here?

Speaker 1:

I don't know. So again, some of them are meat dishes which I can definitely make vegetarian, but there's a spicy sesame cauliflower, There's a fried chicken and egg rice bowl that I don't know how I'd make vegetarian, but it seems really intriguing.

Speaker 2:

I love all of this, So on my side I have a Loco Moco rice burger. Is that the one you were just talking about?

Speaker 1:

No, that sounds amazing. That's so good though.

Speaker 2:

And I can't wait. Like this is just so much fun, talk about it, because it saves that old question of what am I gonna have for dinner. Of course I'm thinking back to your workshop, and you've got a new workshop coming on up, coach, that you're working on, which is bougie meals on a budget. So again, friends, if you're not on the newsletter, you're gonna want to be so you can get a heads up of when that officially is available for purchase.

Speaker 1:

Because look again, we talk about it a lot Not only do you have to fuel your runs, but you also can't break the bank. So I really dislike food waste. I really try to avoid it as much as humanly possible in my own household. So a lot of that cultivation over the years has translated into saving money. I actually recently had shared on our Instagram one of my bougie meal on a budget hats And it's using stale bread and making homemade croutons And saving the bread before it does go overly stale, cutting it up and freezing it And then just unfreezing it to make those croutons. Once you do it, you will never go back to bagged croutons. I'm that confident.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I have a girlfriend who was talking about that actually the other day. She said that she never realized that people bought croutons because she grew up in a household where they pretty much did not ever have food waste And they always figured out ways of making it happen. So I love that And I think that, as we all continue to see grocery prices get more and more expensive, bougie meals on a budget is the perfect way of really trying to harness in any of those cost cutting measures and still feeling ourselves and our families.

Speaker 1:

If you're cooking for more than one or two or three or four, that's always important to do Well and that's one thing I liked about this generator is you can pick how many different meals you want to get ideas for. So if you are one to meal prep or to plan your grocery list in advance, it gives you a lot of great ideas, And I do like that. It has a lot of international dishes as well. One of them was lo mein which I made. Lo mein which was not an authentic lo mein by any means, but I made it out of spaghetti noodles and just doctored it up with some frozen veggies. I have Some soy sauce, some ginger that was in my freezer And I'll go over all this in the workshop.

Speaker 1:

But you can make really flavorful meals, cutting down the amount of ingredients you need to have on hand and, just, you know, having a little variety. So talk about randomness. One of the best things to do is pick like five ingredients you have and try to make a dish out of that. If you watch a lot of Food Network, which I do, Chopped is the best place for inspiration, other than brunch, of course.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, i know folks love that show. Seriously love, love, love that show. With that said, this is the perfect opportunity if you guys wanted to use Chopped to have a little bit of that with this randomizer. but we want you to share in the group or share on social media using the hashtag TFbrunch, let us see what kind of recipes the randomizer helps you create for this upcoming week. We want you guys to say or that you absolutely love this, but if you didn't, let us know. We're always open for constructive criticism. I gotta tell you, coach, i absolutely love this. I had so much fun and cannot wait to actually go out and do this workout.

Speaker 1:

We're gonna have to put this in the freezer and bring it back and thaw it out at a later date, because we're definitely gonna have to do this again.

Speaker 2:

It was definitely a lot of fun, but we want you guys to give yourself a big pat on the back and okay on that, high five, because you did absolutely amazing. Thank you for joining in on a little bit of the extra surprise, putting a little extra pep in your stuff. So great workout and give yourself a high five with that rehydrating, refueling with maybe some of these randomizer recipes While you're recovering and resetting, whether it's on a fainting couch or on a big comfy chair. we'd appreciate it if you'd take the time to subscribe and rate time for brunch on Spotify, apple or wherever you listen to us and share the podcast.
