Speaker 1:

Hey friends, coach Shelby and Coach Christine, welcoming you in and letting you know it's time for brunch. Holiday gift guide edition. We're going to make it to where you can grab your miles with a side of smiles, take them on the run midday in the afternoon or maybe a late night snack attack, and get your holiday wish list done while you're on the go. So if you're going to be moving and grooving, let's lace up those shoes, put a smile on your face and log some miles with our episode for run away ready, trend setting, trends and threads, which I love. Some swag, I love. Some running gear. I have a lot of it, but you can never have too much. Because, again, if you're getting gifted something, I mean, why not have the same thing in two colors? I'm just saying and I know I can feel you being like, I'm not going in a shop, but I'll do some online shopping. What about is that? Is that kind of where you're at, christine?

Speaker 2:

There's definitely going to happen for me, online shopping for gear, but I will say that online shopping can tend to get a little pricier. Versus going to some of like Marshall's, tj, maxx, ross those type of stores, you can get a lot more, your money can stretch a lot more and they do have some really great options. So I think that you can actually find probably a few of these things at your local stores if you want to go to brick and mortar, but if not in your, like me, then we have tons of online options for you, friends. So I'm excited about this. I will say I don't feel like I'm a trendsetter when it comes to my running clothes. I feel like I'm pretty basic, but I feel like you have a lot of fun and your inner fashionista, fashion designer, comes out with throwing out some really fun different combinations. So I'm looking forward to hearing a lot from you as to what you think we should have in our closet as maybe a staple for some of these things.

Speaker 1:

I love clothes, I love running clothes and you are right, a lot of times you can get better deals at your local stores. I'm going to say a blanket statement across the board is I do always recommend looking it up online because you can find which brick and mortar stores do have the lowest price. And don't forget about price matching. Especially this time of year, a lot of places are getting competitive with their price massing, so just a little money saving tip right there. But we talked about in the last episode about headlamps, something they do think a lot of people sleep on and forget that it can be a really good gift.

Speaker 1:

And considered gear are shoe lights because, again, a lot of people don't necessarily love headlamps because of headaches or just comfort level. So lighting yourself up like a Christmas tree is a good idea, no matter where you are running or what you are doing, even if you're biking. So night tech gears adds a little fun, little party flair to your shoes and you barely will notice them. These ones are a little bit pricier, coming in on sale right now at about $60. But, like you said, you can find different brands, different types of them all throughout the internet and in stores and again. Maybe you have one, maybe you need a second one, but I actually think this was actually on Shark Tank, if I'm not mistaken at one time.

Speaker 2:

Ooh, so cool, which I love me. Some Shark Tank Interesting, interesting. Yeah, I mean I can say that whenever I do go out for a dark time or nighttime run I won't say nighttime though, but early morning or late in the evenings and I see folks wearing these I always think that is so smart, just because it really is a great way of seeing, exactly because even if you have a headlamp, you really have to be keeping your head looking straight you can't necessarily look down that often, or these actually let you light up the path and see any potential issues that you are continuing to run nice and safe. So curious. Now we were going to have to figure out if the Shark Tank inventors are also runners. That'd be interesting.

Speaker 1:

Okay, I believe they were.

Speaker 2:

So cool. I love that. I love, like this innovation from being on the run and feeling like, yeah, I need this kind of a product, so very cool.

Speaker 1:

I mean again if you're going to be on Shark Tank, be a runner.

Speaker 2:

Yes, right, it's right. And I wonder if any of the Sharks are runners. I kind of feel like they're not.

Speaker 1:

I'm not sure.

Speaker 2:

Oh, he was training for his fifth marathon when he came up with the idea and tripped on a pothole.

Speaker 1:

So a little food for thought.

Speaker 2:

I do feel, too, what's really cool about this specific episode and these gifts that you guys can give folks is that they're like two on one, so a lot of them are really great in like feeling your best when you go out for your run and looking your best, but they're also really really safe functionalities as well. So the next one on this list is the reflective running jacket especially this time of year, super, super important. And again, we are going to provide a couple of different options for the budget fashionista and if you want more of a splurge. But I will tell you, both of these are really wonderful and I can't necessarily think that you have to spend more money. It's just if you'd like to, if maybe you'd rather invest in one piece versus the other, but I like the option of having multiples.

Speaker 1:

I actually like the budget fashionista option, maybe if it's had a bit more I was going to say that Right Right, it's bright and it's also marketed as packable, which I feel like, especially during runs. If I can't comfortably pack it away, it's a big no for me, because I don't necessarily need it my entire run and I also don't normally spend a lot of money on those overlays. More so because of the environment we live in, I tend to again like it a little bit more on the cheaper side.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I mean I do love the option that we have, that is, the higher end range. I do love the fact that, while it is black, it actually has a fabric that allows for any kind of light to bounce off of it, making you instantly reflective in the dark Super awesome. But I will be honest that I probably would, for that price, prefer three different colored of our budget fashionista option to have a bit more variety, or maybe even spend that extra money on something else on this incredible list. So, yes, I think that, all the way around, though, that is a great thing to have. I love that they're both lightweight. I love that they're both water resistant. I feel like this is a great one to have layer wise. Now, I do know it's probably still a little too light for any of our folks that are experiencing super, super cold weather, but this is a great one for, like, when the weather is in the tween stages in between a fall and winter or in between spring and summer. So I really do like this one a lot.

Speaker 1:

And I will say this would affect the waterproofness a smidge. But if I have any other crafty people out there and let's say you want to add a little bit more reflectiveness, there are iron on or stitch on reflective patches. So you could always put that in more of like the high vis areas, like right at your shoulder area, maybe towards your chest area, just those little bit more visible points, and add that onto the jacket. If you want to go with a little bit more cost effective, still have a little bit more of the reflective assets. Same thing you put on your shoes too. Just saying again I can't, my safety is showing I can't, I can't put it away.

Speaker 2:

I feel like we're going to find you on Shark Tank down the road with your like mixing like fashionista with safety. It's going to be a whole lot of fun. So I can't wait to hear that, because, yes, your safety definitely shines through in all of these episodes. You don't even need reflective running gear, you already have it already with them.

Speaker 1:

I do. I just shine bright like a diamond, you do.

Speaker 2:

What else do we have on this list to make people feel and look their best while they're running?

Speaker 1:

All right. So this one's really, really cool and I know we all already have glasses, we already have earphones, but smart running glasses by Bose. They're blending it all together and I know I've heard a lot of complaints from people of having headphones and glasses and not loving the way it feels. So if you are one of those that you always are running in the sunlight and you like having the option of the music, this could be a really great gift. Again, they can be a little bit on the pricier side. Right now, bose does have a version on sale of saving a hundred dollars, so maybe this is one of those that you do get yourself, or if you're looking to spend a little bit more on somebody, but again being able to have them in one frame per se. It was a great way, and I do love Bose. I was a die hard Bose user for many, many years and I do like that these again aren't in the ear, which has tech safety.

Speaker 2:

Right Right now I don't think that they use bone conduction technology for these Bose frames, so you're still going to have some audio coming into your ear that may distort some of the different safety features, like of aftershocks. But I do agree with you. More and more I'm seeing a lot of folks, myself included, where it almost hurts to have the aftershocks and your sunglasses on At the same time. It puts too much pressure. I also have a very big head, so that's a possibility as to why.

Speaker 2:

I do think that these are a teensy bit heavier, but they do sit well on the head. And again, this might be one of those times that you might want to make your way into a brick and mortar store to try them on or have your runner try them on before you definitely go all in. But I do think they are definitely super cool looking and they kind of even look a little like mission impossible ish a little bit, because they almost kind of look like aviators. But I'm going to be honest, coach. While I definitely think that's an awesome thing to have on list, I'm always going to go for the runway shades from Gooder. I love that cat eye shape. I feel like it looks not like a running. It doesn't look like running sunglasses per se, but is a whole lot of fun. So for me, I'm always going to be a big fan of the runway shape sunglasses from Gooder. But I know that you also are a huge fan of Tafosi.

Speaker 1:

I love Tafosi. Again, a big, big selling point for me is these are not fuller eyes, since I do have a little bit of a delicate flower-esque take when it comes to my eyesight. I love the Swank style, specifically, the Swank XL are also very good. They are a little bit larger, but they come in a bunch of different colors and most of them are around that $29 mark and I'm going to actually having to be investing in some new pairs because Luna has eaten three of mine, but Luna is going to be in a whole lot of trouble.

Speaker 2:

She needs to get you a gift guide, seriously, to replace some of these options. Well, coach, we featured them last year. We're going to feature them again because they are a fan favorite, not just of ours but quite a few of our folks that actually in our TFB training, have definitely highlighted their selfies, if you will, rocking some of the CVG leggings and capris. They also have shorts. I'm a big fan of their shorts as well, for here in Florida, but they have full leggings, they have capris, and what I think that's fun about these is that they are so completely bold and unique and fun.

Speaker 2:

I love their two-in-one reversible options as well, because who doesn't want two for the price of one, where you can kind of just mix and match a little bit more? But CVG is a lot of fun. We know them, we love them. In terms of their product is a great product. Constantly varied gear is actually what it stands for. These were designed more so specifically for gym gals, let's say so. They're squat proof, but I find that they're incredibly comfortable for running as well and from what we see from our TFB training athletes, they agree.

Speaker 1:

I have had a couple of people. I've had a mixed bag. Some love them for running, some felt when they had too many seams. So, depending on where it hits you, I definitely would say try, see what it is and be prepared to use them for a gym option or for that cross training or strength training option. Right now I am low key obsessed with the unicorn ones. Right Again, the leggings for me are like super, super long in general for every brand, so I probably would go more for the Capris, but it is a great option. And, again, I'm a big fan of athleisure wear. I know that you don't tend to wear athleisure wear year round, 24, seven, but leggings are life for me. So a lot of these I tend to buy for non running activities and just because they're cute and it's an adult way to dress up in every way, shape or form. I have one of my mom friends that her and I are very big into dressing up for the holidays, so this is a great way to not be decked out but still be festive.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I agree, cause they do have a lot of festive, especially for this time of year. I gotta tell you, though, their rainbow leopard legging is giving me those 90s Lisa Frank vibes.

Speaker 1:

I knew that though you liked those, I just came up on my screen and I'm like I feel like it's a butt shot on the site.

Speaker 2:

But I'm like I could see Christine rocking those. Those speak to my heart. But for folks that maybe don't like so much in your face 90s nostalgia they have quite a few solid colors as well, or maybe some more muted options. I think their muted options are just as awesome as well, and I think actually I have quite a few of these actually now that I go through it. And for our folks that are up north, they did think of you they have fleece lined leggings. I can't imagine us ever needing these here in Florida.

Speaker 2:

But for y'all folks they do, and I think they're pretty reasonably priced as well.

Speaker 1:

So I like how you're saying north and then you do a really southern y'all.

Speaker 2:

Y'all folks.

Speaker 1:

Y'all folks come back now you hear yeah, there was a little bit of that.

Speaker 2:

I did hear that. Now that you mentioned that, now that you pointed out, actually I'm here for her oh goodness.

Speaker 2:

Well, coach, you touched on it in the last episode. But one thing that's super exciting and I know that this speaks to your heart a lot, because your sister probably feels that she's probably put a gentle bit of pressure on you but you also are making a really big impact of trying to think of eco-friendly options. I know that's been something that we've talked about in the past. So here, when it comes to our running shoes, you actually included quite a few eco-friendly options.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so this is definitely a bandwagon that I feel like a lot of the bigger companies are currently jumping on. Adidas has their Ultra Boost Parley, which always makes me think of Parley from Pirates of the Caribbean I don't know if you get that reference, but I always think about it. So Adidas is doing it. Brooks recently came out with a more eco-friendly shoe, but there are other brands that don't get as much notoriety. One that I do feel like is edging out all of them and I think we might have featured him last year as Allbirds A fellow podcaster and runner.

Speaker 1:

Tina Muir is actually a very big proponent of them, and they have so many different running shoes. They're not insanely expensive. A lot of them you can pick up on sale for 60 bucks versus like the 140, some are a little higher. They do have wool runners. They have one that's called a tree runner, and one of our athletes actually turned me on to another brand that I started looking up and I'm hoping I am not going to butcher the name, but I always put it out there because I never get too big for my running of britches but there is another one called Witten, and she specifically uses them for cross training and strength training, because it's a good flat shoe versus running. But we're always looking for it and she swears by him. She's had one pair for four years. She, yes, is getting a new pair, but they have waterproof shoes, they have some nice sandals, so maybe the next recovery option as well.

Speaker 2:

Ooh, I love that and yes, I am with you. I actually read or watched a YouTube on back to the Albert. With those minimalists, it sounds like the Winton would as well.

Speaker 2:

I said how it helps to strengthen your feet. So this is for folks that maybe aren't necessarily wanting to go full barefoot running they're not really ready to go to Vibrams or Vibrams or every pronounced that back to those days but they are looking for a bit of a way to kind of strengthen their feet. Now I will say take that into consideration that you can't go from a full stability and full support cushion shoe and go into a minimalist shoe and go out for your regular run. Please transition smartly. But yeah, I love these. I actually think they're really really stylish. I mean, they're really really stylish.

Speaker 1:

Like a lot of. Okay, I'm gonna say I said this off mic and I wasn't gonna say it on mic because I didn't want to like fluster anybody. But a lot of times, especially when the eco movement and awareness was coming out, a lot of the options weren't super pleasing or stylish. These are really, really cute and I'm glad you called it out about being a minimalist barefoot type of shoe. Again, this could be a great option to start out trying in the gym, because you don't want a lot of cushioning.

Speaker 1:

When you are lifting, you wanna really be able to quote, unquote, feel the floor and have that inner stability. So I actually think I'm gonna be adding these to a gift to myself and using them especially for just walking around. We've talked about not using your running shoes for other activities and wearing them for everyday use, so to avoid foot problems, this can also be a really good option to kind of start segueing into your day-to-day lives.

Speaker 2:

So I love that we gave a lot of love and attention to our footwear, but I think it's also really important to give a lot of attention since, especially here at brunch, we talk about how it's really important to keep that head up, keep your chin up, make sure you're nice, tall and proud. But how do we cover our head when we want to get out to the elements? And for me, I will always love head sweats, specifically because I am such a heavy sweater. This specific fabric they have on the inside seam of their hat helps to absorb some of that extra sweat. But this year we're gonna feature them a little differently. Last year we featured them through another third-party site who uses their product to kind of customize and have a lot of fun. This year we're gonna actually highlight it, where you yourself can get your own hat customized or visor, I should say, because I'm more of a visor girl than a hat gal.

Speaker 2:

So they have a myriad of options. If you have a small run club that you're looking at and you're kind of considering something that would be really fun for your run club, this would be great. If you're looking for just maybe a group costume, this would be great. Or if you just wanna be able to have it for your own or gift for somebody on your list, this is definitely a way to make sure that you kind of stand out with a whole lot of fun. It does have a little bit of a longer turnaround to customize it, but still I think it should be a whole lot of fun. And I'm kind of curious if folks are interested in maybe a customized time for brunch type of visor and hat. So you guys will have to let us know if that's something that you should go on our to-do list. But I love head sweats. It really is my favorite. But I think you like the other one on this specific list a little bit more.

Speaker 1:

Prince is really, really cute. And again, I will admit, a lot of the stuff on my list I use a lot more in my day-to-day life. I've become a very big hat person. Okay, I think, just because, again, I go out on the boat, I go paddle boarding, so I tend to like my running shoes, keep certain products just for my running and others for my full outdoors. Maybe you've inspired me with the getting out and adventuring gift guide that we did, so maybe I'm gonna wear this on my national parks. But Prince is super, super cute and they have a lot of options. They have visors, which, like you, I am more of a visor girl and really enjoy the differences they have. And again, safety. They have a neon one which how am I not? They have one with donuts. They have bananas. They have flying pigs if you're maybe looking at the flying pigs if you're gonna plan a runcation.

Speaker 1:

So I think I love the idea of customizing head sweats, but if you don't want to place a big order and you're looking for something just a little bit different and to show a little bit more of a fun spirit, I really think Prince is the best.

Speaker 2:

It's a way to go.

Speaker 1:

It's bringing the fun.

Speaker 2:

I will tell you that I really love their national parks towel and I think that, going back to our third episode, if you're thinking of giving somebody a national park pass, you're like, oh, that kind of may be a little cheesy. This is a great way to kind of package that up together. Again, still on, I wouldn't say it's inexpensive but still very reasonable to have a little prize pack that combines the two. So absolutely super cute items. I don't think I've ever tried them. I wonder if I need to break out of that and kind of give it a twirl.

Speaker 1:

We'll see you in the next episode. It's again it's never say never, especially in the running world, Pat reflective Sizer and Hat Girl.

Speaker 2:

I like that actually hurts the eye, so I can only imagine. I can only imagine what it's like in real person.

Speaker 1:

So it hurts the eyes, it warms the soul.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, I mean, it's always great to definitely make it back home safely, so of course I could see where that be. A lot of wonderful aspects, which takes us to our next one. We're talking about being vibrant, putting yourself out there. Make sure that people can be, can see you as you are smashing these miles. Well, our friends, it's time for you to maybe request or to gift a vibrant running vest and there's also a myriad of those out in the world, but such a great way.

Speaker 2:

If, again, you're in the tween times of weather where you need a little bit more to keep those core organs nice and warm, but you don't necessarily need a whole lot of extra layers, you're going to want to add in a little bit of a running vest. And we're highlighting Columbia. I love this beautiful Tiffany blue pop of color. This makes me think like I would feel so fashionista wearing like black with this pop of color here. Coach Shelby would tell me I'm not allowed to go out at any time except for daytime in it. I think even that might be in trouble, but I do love its vibrancy.

Speaker 2:

And then maybe I would support the reflective neon yellow hat from Sprint so that I could be very easily visibly seen.

Speaker 1:

I do like the idea of a vest. I will say, yes, I'm going to go ahead and hot glue some different reflective patches on this, ok, but I do like the idea of a vest. Again keeps that what you call them needed organs or vital organs.

Speaker 2:

Or vital organs? Yeah, they're pretty important, you know, lungs, heart, core, yeah, all of that stuff.

Speaker 1:

I mean, you know you might need it every once in a while, but no, I do like the idea of a vest. Again, I keep going back. I feel like everything on my list is practical. But with that whimsy I got to give another shout out to flock Because if I'm going to get running gear again I've already said I'm a Grinch I tell my family don't get me anything apparel running related. Really try not to do anything running related. But I'm low, not so low key, really hoping that I get the incanto jacket for Christmas. I've dropped a few hands to my family. I need this jacket in my life.

Speaker 2:

I feel like if you don't get that jacket, you have to get it for yourself.

Speaker 1:

I will, I absolutely will. I'm between and have that, and then I also kind of feel like I need the finding Nemo outfit because I want to take Dory's line and just keep yelling, just keep swimming, just keep running. Oh, so cute, look out in 2024.

Speaker 2:

OK.

Speaker 2:

So we will definitely stay tuned for that, but I do love I think it's again, as you said, adding in a touch of whimsy, but still super fashion forward, because I think, again, it's very, very, very flattering cuts, which may not be the case for every single running apparel, and I think it really comes down to the cuts if you want it to be flattering, especially for us ladies who maybe we have a lot in our pockets without you About even putting anything in our pockets, if you will.

Speaker 2:

So we need a little bit more of, or we choose, because it's all about choice, right, like you could rock whatever you want, but for me, I know that I like to have a little bit of a cut that has some volume, that allows for me to just feel really comfortable and a little feisty and sassy with those little bit of ruffles. So I'm a big fan of flock, cannot wait to see you rocking your end conto and your Nemo, because I'm going to put it out there. I'm like putting out good vibes that you get the incanto jacket and then you can buy your Nemo like outfit. Does that work?

Speaker 1:

Let's make that happen. I like that. Ok, that that, as the kids would say, that ships.

Speaker 2:

Oh goodness, now I feel like we need a whole another conversation about that. I have no clue what that is. Now, again, something that maybe I don't necessarily have quite a few of in my back pocket, but I do have some, is convertible running gloves and middens. We learned from again all y'all out north that the convertible gloves and middens are how you like to rock and roll when you're out, getting your runs in, because it allows you to still be able to take them off, the little convertible portion so you can text if you need to or check in with anyone on your cell phone, but it still keeps your hands super warm. And we're going to go ahead and highlight a little bit of soccanees. And I feel like we have to highlight these because, coach Shelby, they are in what color? They're neon. Yes, definitely, I feel like you are neon. Safety both kind of like you hold the crowns.

Speaker 1:

My friend the more obnoxious the better. Just that's going to go on my headstone. The more obnoxious, the better. It describes my personality and my fashion choices.

Speaker 2:

Are we going to have a neon headstone? I'm curious as well. No, no, maybe.

Speaker 1:

Is that where you draw the line? I don't know.

Speaker 2:

Ask me in like 80 years. Of all the places to draw the line, that one I'm quite surprised with. But with that said so, we're featuring those convertible middens and gloves which you can obviously get in the bright neon color. What next should we have? Possibly in neon or otherwise?

Speaker 1:

Well, I'm going to go with some compression arm sleeves because, again talk about something that you can easily put on and take off during your run out without getting arrested for a decent exposure. It gives that little bit of compression, which can be really good after maybe a harder arm day, but also gives a little bit of coverage from the elements without having to go in full jacket mode. So athlete athletic gear say that five times fast has a ton of options, again, not badly priced, coming in around fifteen dollars. So many colors, including a nice bright yellow. So many prints, so many prints, so many prints. I actually really love the breast cancer ribbon one.

Speaker 2:

Yes, that was super attractive. I don't know how I feel about the pizza arm sleeve. I've got to be honest, it's a little disturbing looking. What about the doughnuts? The doughnuts are cute because they're like, they're more cartoonish, but the pizza is actually very, very realistic, almost hyper realistic, if you will. I don't know if I want my arms to look like I'm quite literal, just flying pizzas. That's just. It's just too bizarre for me. It made me hungry. But if you're rocking the pepperoni sliced pizza arm sleeves, please, please do take a selfie, because I want to see it and live in action, my friend.

Speaker 1:

I mean, I just want a pizza at this point, but maybe that's a great gift option where you haven't even talked about. Just get a pizza or a runner will love you for it, that's for especially after those long runs.

Speaker 2:

So I don't know if I would necessarily want a pizza right this very instant or on my arm sleeves, but I do think that fashion arm sleeves are definitely a way to go to add a little bit of extra fun and also like a lot of actual needed comfort as you're running and rocking and willing. But I also think the running belt if you do not, if you have not transitioned to any of the things that we've talked about, like CVG or flock, where you have pockets, you can also go the style of a running belt. So, of course, flip belt's been in the market for quite some time for a reason, and they have zipper collections, they have OG collections. They've now expanded so you can definitely get all of the larger phones, even though the phones are now becoming a bit smaller again. So there is something out there for everyone.

Speaker 2:

I will say and this is the one caveat if you're going to go with the zipper style versus their OG style, please do make sure the person you're purchasing it for has the right size or has the size of the zipper or the width that you need, because if they get that zipper and it pretty much it becomes at that point where they can't get their phone, and if their phone is a larger style. So you want to make sure to take that into consideration and of course they've got a size guide for all of that stuff. But knowing that it has a little bit of give is really important as well, and it rocks the reflective yellow as well.

Speaker 1:

And last but certainly not least, if the flip belt isn't your jam, definitely check out Kuala Clip. I've talked about them before. They are designed more for the ladies with the sports bras, but it is a great option to store some different things. I have stored gels in there. It takes a little bit more computing on the run than the flip belt does, but if you're not a fan of things around the waist, like I am, you can go ahead and look into that. They can have different sizes, but wonderful small company to support and make those running bras work for you.

Speaker 2:
